Like the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. But how do you know it’s time to quit that job? You probably have spent years on the job. Maybe you’re barely a few months in. For some, the decision to leave is as clear as day, for others it is not so obvious.
Whatever the stage you are in, here are 5 subtle signs it’s time to move on from your current employer.
- You’re unhappy most days on the job. The key word here is MOST. Every day on the job won’t be a jolly good ride. But if you feel dissatisfied and discontented most of the time, then your time there might be up.
- You don’t fit in with the corporate culture and/or you don’t believe in the company anymore.
- You are underusing your skills. Your boss knows you can definitely do more but for some reasons unknown to you, some projects are not landing on your desk.
- The work environment is unhealthy. Quick advice: Look for coping mechanisms but same time plan your exit. Your mental health is very important key. Don’t take it for granted.
- There are no opportunities for growth. Once you sense you have reached your peak in an organisation, it’s time to find new challenges and opportunities.
If you decide to quit, remember to not “burn the bridges”. Ensure you are professional during your exit, no matter how painful it might be. Your new employer might seek recommendations before hiring you.
